With Vijay having officially floated his political outfit, it is only natural that every film he does from now on will be under the public scanner for any kind of political content. When asked about the political content in Velayudham, director Raja was quick to respond that the film has nothing to do with politics.However, he also added that in spite of any direct political connection, the film could serve as a potent stepping stone to future political endeavors of the star. How is that possible? Raja says that Velayudham has Vijay playing a savior of the masses, something like the superhero who serves and saves the people of the land. After the movie releases everyone in the audience will feel that it is this kind of leader that Tamil Nadu needs. The film has the potential to portray Vijay as a leader of the future for the Tamil people. In other words Velayudham has the ability to do things for Vijay that Idhayakanni did for MGR.
The film seems to have come out well and the director is confident about it. Really, what is left to be seen is whether, as Raja claims, an apolitical film can make a huge political impact.
